Little girl, don’t be afraid to be loud. Shake the room with your presence. Announce it. Let your essence be felt even before you arrive. Just like you did with tiny flutter kicks. The thing you did to let us know that we should expect to see you in the next 6 months.
Little girl, you are a force to reckon with. You are very strong-willed and negotiating with you feels like a losing battle especially when you are focused on what you want. You are a tough negotiator and are never afraid to go after what you want. Honestly, even at birth, you did not go by the rule book. You were ready to face the world, so you charged out full force, head first.
Little girl, you are daring. Always wanting the scariest rides at the park, thrilled by adventure, exploring the outdoors and seeing all the possibilities. Mud and dirt and puddles and sandpits and rocks and stones are all things to be played with. You have no time to worry about how dirty your clothes will get. Don’t lose that. Let your feet walk you into places you deserve to be.
Little girl, you are magic! The way the light catches in your eyes, the way your hair shrinks up at the slightest whisper of moisture – humidity, rain, shower water – basically anything liquid. The way your skin darkens in the sun and turns pale when you have been indoors for way too long. You never really lose the magic. It is always within you. When doubt creeps in, take a long hard look in the mirror and remember who you are is magic.
Little girl, your instincts are strong. Listen to them. They guide you. They always have, especially when it comes to people. You are very discerning. There is no grey area with you. You are either in or out. No halfsies, no take backs.
Little girl, food is wonderful. Food is for nourishing the mind, body and soul. As long as it won’t kill you, eat it. There is no such thing as bad food. It is all good food. Don’t listen to those who say that you should not eat this or drink this. Try it at least once just so that you decide for yourself. If you like it, please keep eating or drinking it. Just remember, everything in moderation.
Little girl, not everything will go your way, and that’s alright. Sometimes life hands us sour grapes so we ferment them and make wine. And enjoy the wine! I hope you always get to see the silver lining under the grey clouds. And if it takes you a bit longer to get there, that’s okay too. Don’t let the bad take away the good that is just around the corner.
Little girl, boys can be really silly. Girls too. Sometimes they say mean and hurtful things. Other times they make your heart flutter and make you feel special. At times you spend time thinking about them a little too much. That’s okay too. Just don’t forget who you are without them, or who you were before they came into your life. You are still whole. You are still worthy. You have so much to offer. And if they do not see the value in you, ditch them!!
Little girl, you are an amazing artist! Honestly, the skill level of your drawings is impressive. You have some mad talent right there. Choose what you do with it. I am here to support you.
Little girl, you are cherished. You are valued. You are loved.
To the little girl who has given me purpose.
